As you consider bidding on projects in the City of Sumner, please remember to address stormwater.
Construction Sites & Stormwater Management
- Implement your erosion and sediment control BMP’s: reduce the chance of turbid waters running off your construction site. Properly implement erosion and sediment controls such as silt fences, storm ponds, or check dams to avoid turbid discharge.
- Monitor “track-out” from construction sites: often dirt, mud and debris from recently graded sites are tracked out onto city streets where these materials get washed into the storm drains during the next rain event.
- Verify your Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is accurate, up to date, and addresses all stormwater compliance requirements. Often minor changes should be made to address unforeseen Stormwater Management issues.
New Low-Impact Development Technologies:
- Consider using pervious paving instead of non-infiltrating materials to increase ground water recharge and reduce runoff to local rivers and streams.
- Implement a rain garden to reduce the toxins from roadways, or connect roof downspouts to recharge the ground water levels and reduce stormwater discharge to local rivers and streams.
- Install a green roof, instead of composite or normal roofing materials. Green roofs provide several benefits, including reducing smog and dust, alleviating urban heat and reducing cooling costs, providing habitat for plants and animals, increasing roof life expectancy, reducing noise, and the potential of increasing property value.
