Because utilities are paid for by all the users of the utility service, users who add extra burden on the system will be charged the following fees:
Returned check: $40.00 per Administrative Policy
Charges the City of Sumner receives from the bank for return checks are passed onto the account holder.
Closing bill: $40.00 per SMC 13.08.040
Ownership or tenancy changes requested by a home owner or title company requires a $40.00 administrative fee for creation of a final bill.
Shut off: $40.00 per SMC 13.24.350.
Delinquent utility accounts without arrangements, are penalized with a water disconnection and $40.00 charge. Late fee: 5% with a min. of $15.00 per SMC 13.08.060
Payments are due on the 15th of each month with a five day grace period through 5:00 p.m. on the 20th. Late fees are then assessed at 5% of the owing balance of $35.00 and greater with a minimum charge of $15.00. After-hours reconnection of water service: $200.00 per SMC 13.24.350
Requests to have water reconnected after normal working hours incur an after-hours call-out fee of $200.00
Illegally turning services on: $60.00-$100.00 per SMC 13.24.340
An owner or tenant of the property that causes the water to be turned on after a city representative has already shut it off at the meter will be charged $60.00 for the representative to turn it back off. A second offense is $100.00.
