Police

Go beyond TV dramas to experience the real thing!

What’s it like to drive a police car?  Or fire a gun?  What happens when you get booked into jail or call 911?  There are two ways to find out.  We recommend the second: sign up for the Sumner Police Citizen’s Academy.

The Academy will hold sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8 pm starting March 27 and running through April 24 with one Saturday session (driving the cars!) on April 14.

Find out for yourself how your police department operates with interactive sessions covering the topics of criminal investigations, defensive tactics, criminal law, traffic procedures and more.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or a high school senior, live and/or work in the City of Sumner, have no felony convictions or outstanding warrants. All applicants are subject to a background check. Space is limited!  If you’re interested, contact Deputy Chief Engel at jeffe@sumnerwa.gov or 253-299-5644.
