On Saturday, June 14 (Flag Day), Sumner joined the nation to Raise It Up! and sing the National Anthem all at the same time.  Led by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, this effort invited people from around the United States to sing all at the same time.  Sumner’s Heritage Park boasted 200 participants, all of whom were singing, waving flags and absorbing the patriotic spirit.

Thank you to ACT 1 Theatre Productions and Glenn Buttkus (whose birthday is also on Flag Day) for providing sound and oration of the history of the Star-Spangled Banner.  Thank you to Pierce County TV for filming the event and watch this site for footage later this week.  Thank you to the employees of Bunzl Seattle who helped check participants in, and Sumner’s Cub Scout Troop for making sure everyone had flags and helping us count down to sing at 1 pm.  Thank you to East Pierce Fire & Rescue for bringing out Sumner’s historic Kenworth Fire Engine to add to the celebration.  And, thank you to everyone who raised up their voice to sing the National Anthem.

Thank you to the Hoover family for sharing your photos.  If you would like to share your photos from Sumner’s event, send them to carmenp@sumnerwa.gov.
