Prior to construction or remodeling, food service establishments must submit detailed design plans and equipment specifications for approval by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. This assists establishments by ensuring compliance with Code requirements. Once construction is complete, an inspection is conducted to verify that all design and installation requirements have been met.

Mobile/Manufactured Homes

You need a building permit from the City if you are installing a mobile/manufactured home on a site in Sumner. However, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has jurisdiction on Mobile & Manufactured home alterations, including:

  • Heat pump/air conditioning installations
  • Wood/pellet/gas stove installations
  • Changing from electric to gas appliances
  • Electrical or plumbing changes
  • Structural changes or additions
