The Transportation Improvement Board awarded Sumner a Complete Streets grant of $250,000. The City was selected for this award because of its commitment to the complete streets ethic in our planning documents, our community outreach and engagement in street and road projects. You must be nominated by at least one qualifying organization, and Sumner received nominations from the Department of Commerce, the Dept. of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and Transportation Choices Coalition.

This grant builds on work the City has already done to build safe streets complete with sidewalks, lighting, ADA ramps and landscaping. It will help pay for adding ADA ramps in the older sidewalks, to build a street-tree nursery where trees will be able to grow larger before being planted along streets, and to update the Trail and Parks Plan. Thank you to the Transportation Improvement Board, and for our three nominating organizations, for choosing Sumner for this funding.
