Inspired by the old saying “you cannot understand a person’s experience until you have walked a mile in their shoes,” five of Sumner’s leaders joined courageous men across Pierce County to boldly walk in women’s shoes. Why? To help raise awareness about sexual assault and to raise funds for the Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County (SACPC).  Thank you for braving blisters and twisted ankles.  And, thanks to everyone’s contributions, Sumner’s team was the second highest fundraising team for this important cause!

SACPC provides victims with confidential, non-judgmental, victim-centered services, including  therapists who help victims become “survivors”; educators who help children identify and avoid sexual assault and advocates who answer calls 24/7.  This non-profit serves the entire county, including Sumner, and relies on donations for funding.

Sumner’s team, called the “Sumner Strutters,” includes team captain Chief Brad Moericke, City Administrator John Galle, Public Works Director Mike Dahlem, City Attorney Brett Vinson and Community Development Director Ryan Windish.
