Notice is hereby given that the City of Sumner PLANNING COMMISSION WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING on a proposed update to citywide zoning code amendment related to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), as described below. Written comments are due by October 2, 2024 to chrissandaw@sumnerwa.gov or submit comments at the public hearing. The public has the right to review the contents of the official file for the proposal, provide written comments, participate in the public hearings/meetings, and request a copy of the final decision.
Proposal Name: City Zoning Code Amendment – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Proposal Description: The proposal would update regulations in the zoning code pertaining to Battery Energy Storage Systems including adding a definition and limiting locations to industrial/manufacturing areas and distance from residentially zoned properties. Specifically amending chapters: SMC 18.04 definitions; SMC 18.18 Manufacturing Districts; and sections: 18.04.0162; 18.04.1070; 18.18.020; 18.18.060 and adding a new section SMC 18.04.0163 for defining “BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS (BESS).”
