Recently, a 5th Grader at one of our Sumner schools was sad to learn that her bicycle had been stolen while she was at school. Officer Anderson, our new School Resource Officer, reached out the Bonney Lake Bicycle Shop of Sumner who generously donated a bike to the student.
Here are some pictures of “the adult male who sunk lower than a footprint to steal a child’s bike from school” (as Officer Anderson put it). If you recognize him or have any information, leave a message at 253-299-5678. However generous the donation, it does not dismiss the crime.

On September 15, 2024, at 6:34 pm, officers from the Sumner Police Department responded to a person in crisis on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks over Hwy 410. Multiple agencies responded to provide assistance, including Washington State Patrol, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, and a civilian crisis responder. At 8:34 pm, after multiple strategies including negotiations and less than lethal tactics, the incident resulted in the use of lethal force by members of the Sumner, Puyallup and Bonney Lake departments. No officers were injured.
Following State law, the Pierce County Force Investigation Team (PCFIT) will be taking over this investigation. A public information officer from PCFIT has not yet been assigned to this incident. During the investigation, Traffic Ave will be closed between Thompson Street and Main Street.
