Our online utility bill pay system is currently down. The software vendor is looking into the issue. In the meantime, we will not proceed with shut-offs as scheduled for 2/28/23 and will update the timeline when the system returns. You can still pay by credit card, check or cash at City Hall.

As temperatures continue to drop, don’t forget to take care of your pipes. Here are a few tips to avoid frozen pipes:

  • Open cabinet doors to let warmer air flow around sink pipes in kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Consider temporarily cancelling automatic thermostats that drop during the night. It will mean more power/gas used but it could be less expensive in the long-run than frozen pipes. (Hint: just remember to reset the thermostat when we return to more normal temperatures.)
  • Cover/wrap outdoor faucets.
  • Keep at least one faucet on a very slow drip.

And, if your pipes do freeze, call Public Works at 253-299-5740 to turn off your water at the meter for you. We’ve seen many homeowners already in a panic end up breaking their meter as well, which adds even more unnecessary costs.
