The City of Sumner is excited to work with the Pierce County Library System on the future of a new library building in Sumner. As we have heard over and over again from citizens, the current location, owned by the City, is not ideal because of truck traffic, commercial growth and safety. While we started discussions about a move several years ago, last year, we had the opportunity to purchase land across from Fred Meyer to eventually help bring the library back on Main Street and into the center of town. The library is now in their planning process as they identify needed services and community support.

Most people don’t ask if the library is moving but when. It’s time to share that excitement with the Library System. Sumner is often about partnerships, and we’re excited to imagine a new library here with our partners at Pierce County Library System.
