Lots of non-profits and service organizations help make any community special. Here are some of the groups serving the community of Sumner:
The Sumner Community Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides nutritious food with dignity to our neighbors in need in Sumner (98390 zipcode) and Lake Tapps (98391 zipcode) through donations and the work of dedicated volunteers. Our mission is also to be good stewards of food surpluses, and increase public awareness on issues of hunger in our community.
A family support center where people can meet, drop in, or gather together as a group to receive help or provide support for one another. The Center offers a wide variety of human service programs, resources, health services, referrals and information. Our goal is to work with the community and assist our neighbors while supporting and strengthening the family unit. Stronger families build stronger communities.
Exodus Housing works exclusively with single parent families that are actively fleeing, or attempting to flee domestic violence and have legal custody of a minor child (age 17 or younger). Through a strength-based empowerment model of case management we assist each family in our program with obtaining permanent housing, employment, family stabilization and the removal of barriers to self-sufficiency.
In our nearly 30 years of service to homeless and nearly homeless families with children living in the more rural areas of east Pierce County and the cities of Tacoma and Puyallup, Helping Hand House guides families to make permanent changes in their lives that enable them to thrive.
Helping kids succeed is what the Sumner-Bonney Lake Education Foundation is all about. Created in 2001 by local business, education and community leaders, the Foundation’s purpose is to raise funds to support student scholarships, enrichment and outreach programs.
