After carefully reviewing the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department’s recommendations for parks, starting this Friday, we’re reopening Sumner’s playgrounds and courts for distanced use. Please help us keep these amenities open by following the guidelines:

  • No more than five people of separate households should be using the equipment/court at a time. This is still not a time for pick-up basketball games.
  • Stay 6′ apart from people not in your household.
  • Wash carefully or use hand-sanitizer after use. We don’t have running water facilities at parks, so pack the sanitizer!

The exception remains Loyalty Park as we continue to build its improved, inclusive playground. If we can finish the base pour there these next few days without disruption, we should be able to open this playground soon too. The opening date is a bit delayed since our crews were busy cleaning up from the wind storm and fire. Please keep in mind that while the air quality remains poor, using our outdoor parks is not a good idea for other safety concerns. But, this helps you plan for when the air clears.
