As part of the UP Cares program, Union Pacific (UP) Railroad donated $2500 to the Sumner Police Department to help with crossing safety where City streets cross the UP tracks. Thanks to this gift, Officer Sullivan attended the Railroad Grade Collision Investigation course, and six officers conducted a traffic emphasis at crossings. During the 42 hours of the emphasis, they pulled over 88 vehicles, issuing 68 infractions and 20 warnings.
Please be careful when traveling over any railroad crossing. The greatest risk is not an infraction, but a very damaging and potentially fatal collision with a train. More safety tips from U.P. Cares
