Our online utility bill pay system is currently down. The software vendor is looking into the issue. In the meantime, we will not proceed with shut-offs as scheduled for 2/28/23 and will update the timeline when the system returns. You can still pay by credit card, check or cash at City Hall.

Attention travelers! Between late September and mid-October 2024, major construction will be in progress over I-5 in Fife as WSDOT continues building the new SR 167 Expressway. Here’s everything you need to know to navigate the changes smoothly:

What’s happening?

Construction crews will be setting girders for a new four-lane bridge with turn lanes over I-5 and demolishing the old 70th Avenue East bridge. The new bridge will feature a diverging diamond interchange to better connect I-5 with the future SR 167 Expressway extension.

To accommodate the construction work, I-5 will be closed in both directions overnight on Fridays and Saturdays during the following weekends:

  • September 27-28
  • October 4-5
  • October 11-12
  • October 18-19

Closure timing:

  • Friday and Saturday nights lanes begin closing at 7 p.m.
  • All northbound lanes will close by 10:30 p.m.; southbound by 11 p.m.
  • Lanes will reopen on Saturday by 11 a.m. and on Sunday by noon.

Nighttime closures are designed to minimize travel interruptions and reduce disruptions for daily commuters and local traffic. Your patience is appreciated as WSDOT works to enhance connectivity and improve travel efficiency in the region.
