Notice of Council Vacancy Recruitment
The City of Sumner is requesting applications from residents of Sumner to fill a vacancy on the City Council. The term will commence once a candidate is appointed by a majority vote of the City Council, and will expire on December 31, 2019.
The City operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. The seven-member City Council serves as the legislative body of the City. The Council is responsible for setting policy, adopting the annual budget, adopting laws, determining the services to be provided and the funding levels for those services, and appointing citizens to its advisory boards and commissions.
The timeline for filling the Council vacancy is as follows:
March 5, 2018: Applications and supplemental materials due to City Clerk, by 5:00 pm.
March 12, 2018: Candidate interviews beginning at 6:00 pm
March 19, 2018: Swearing in of new Councilmember (tentative)
Residents interested in applying must have resided within the City of Sumner for one year and must be a registered voter. Interested residents may access application forms online here or pick them up at City Hall 1104 Maple Street.
Applications and supplemental materials must be received by March 5, 2018, at 5:00 pm. A mailing postmark date will NOT be accepted.
