Our online utility bill pay system is currently down. The software vendor is looking into the issue. In the meantime, we will not proceed with shut-offs as scheduled for 2/28/23 and will update the timeline when the system returns. You can still pay by credit card, check or cash at City Hall.
The City of Sumner’s 2024 Water Quality Report is now available, and the results are great news—our drinking water continues to meet all safety standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Washington State Department of Health. Our main water sources include Sumner Springs, Crystal/County Springs, and Elhi Springs, with four additional wells used during peak times. Regular testing for things like nitrates and arsenic showed everything is well within safe limits. For example, nitrate levels came in at just 2.17 ppm—far below the federal limit of 10 ppm. We also saw an improvement in our water system’s efficiency, with leakage rates dropping to 8.7% compared to the three-year average of 12%. While there are no known lead pipes in our service lines, we can’t control what kind of materials may have been used in private plumbing. If you live in Sumner, we’d love your help—take a moment to complete our Lead Service Line Survey and help us continue keeping our water system safe and reliable. …We also want to send a special thanks to Shaun Piper and the entire Operations team for their hard work and dedication to keeping Sumner’s water clean, safe, and high quality year-round.   Read the Full Report Here
