Description of Proposal: The City of Sumner submitted application for a Zoning code Text Amendment that would amend Title 18 Sumner Municipal Code –for consistency with Washington State Legislature: Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5509. This bill requires cities and towns to allow child care centers as defined in RCW 46.216.010, and the conversion of existing buildings for the use of child care centers, as an outright permitted use in all zones except industrial zones, light industrial zones, and open space zones. The City of Sumner currently provides for a conditional use approval of an on-site child care center in industrial or light industrial zones, except in or around high-hazard facilities.
