Police Public Disclosure Request (NextRequest)
Use this link to go directly to the City of Sumner public records portal, called NextRequest. If you are unfamiliar with the process of requesting records, please review our police records page to learn more about how it works.
Online Reporting Option for Non-Emergency Incidents
For emergencies or in-progress crimes and incidents, call 911. 24-hour non-emergency dispatch can be reached at 253-287-4455 or toll-free 1-800-562-9800.
Online reports are intended for reporting certain non-emergency crimes and incidents, including lost property, theft, vandalism, or vehicle prowls. Please review the online reporting criteria to determine if it is an appropriate option.
Online reports are generally considered to be advisory or informational and are not typically assigned for contact or follow-up. If you desire to have an officer respond to the scene or wish to speak to an officer, DO NOT use online reporting. You will need to contact dispatch (emergency or non-emergency) and create a call for service.
Concealed Pistol Licenses
Applications are accepted for City of Sumner residents who physically reside within the city limits. Residents of other cities or areas in Washington State must apply with their agency of jurisdiction. Residents of unincorporated Pierce County must apply with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (via South Sound 911).
Peddler/Solicitor Licenses
A license is required to engage in the business of peddler, solicitor, or canvasser within the city limits. The license fee is based on the number of persons and the amount of days requested. Please review the city code for more details, and call 253-863-6384 during business hours to inquire about the licensing process.
Police Personnel Complaint or Commendation
A member of the public may always call and request to speak to a supervisor regarding any issues with our officers or staff. However, we do have a formal written complaint process as well. If you wish to file a formal written complaint against a member of the police department, please fill out and provide us with a Complaint Form (pdf).
Please do not use the complaint form to report incidents or crimes. If you need to report something or speak to an officer, please call emergency at 911 or non-emergency at 253-287-4455.
Did one of our police department members do something you feel is worthy of positive recognition? There are many ways to show appreciation, but you can always use our Commendation Form (pdf) as well.
Alarm Permits
Permits are no longer required for alarms. However, please continue to help prevent false alarms.
