Our online utility bill pay system is currently down. The software vendor is looking into the issue. In the meantime, we will not proceed with shut-offs as scheduled for 2/28/23 and will update the timeline when the system returns. You can still pay by credit card, check or cash at City Hall.

When does Sumner generally sweep its streets?

If not pouring rain or icy, the street sweeper follows a general schedule and route. Our goal is to sweep the residential neighborhoods on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Starting early Friday morning, around 2:00 am, we sweep parking lots, downtown and the commercial areas of town.  Wednesday is garbage day, so we focus on areas of the city such as East Valley, West Valley, Tapps Hwy, Stewart Road and the north end, while staying out of the way of garbage trucks.

What can you do to help?

There are things you can do to help make sure the sweeper can successfully clean in front of your home or business.

  • Keep tree branches pruned back and up so that they don’t scrape the sweeper.
  • Do not actively add to the sweeper’s garbage.  Pushing leaves, litter and animal droppings into the street hinders the sweeper and is illegal.  Please dispose these items in other more appropriate ways.
  • If you park your car on the street, try parking it elsewhere on Thursdays or Fridays (depending on where you live) so that the sweeper does not have to swerve around your car and leave that section of the street unswept.
