The Our Lady of Guadalupe festival has a lot of cultural significance and is celebrated in many Latin American countries including Mexico. It is held on December 12 and is considered one of the most important religious festivals in Mexico. The festival is observed in the honour of Virgin Mary’s visit to Juan Diego in 1531. It is believed that the apparition of Virgin Mary was witnessed by the native Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin (the man born on the spot where later the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe was built).
