Good news for Sumner residents and everyone who loves to use the Heath Sports Complex: on Monday night, the Council approved an intergovernmental transfer of the City’s portion of the complex to the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, who already own the northern portion of the complex. With this transfer, the School District gains much-needed recreation space, and they have the funds to make repairs the City has not been able to do, including turf on the main field, updated field lighting and adding lights to the parking lot. In return, the City will take the proceeds from this sale and invest those to develop the current Bennett property into a much-needed park near the Creekside neighborhood. Bottom line: the Sports Complex remains an amenity for the public to use; it will now be managed and improved by the School District; and the City can invest in beginning to develop another park for the east side neighborhoods.
