Mobile Food Vendors 

Mobile food vendors including food trucks are welcome in the City of Sumner! We recognize the importance of having mobile food vendors in town to bring a variety of convenient food options, economic and business development, and excitement to our downtown.

There are two options for parking and serving in Sumner:

Parking on City Streets

Mobile food vendors may park on City streets in accordance with Sumner Municipal Code 10.36, provided that:

1. They have acknowledged and signed the applicable year’s Food Truck Program Guidelines and submitted all required documentation.
2. They have a valid State of Washington Business License.
3. All parking and time requirements and restrictions are met.
4. The operation complies with the City’s Sign Code.
5. The vendor has a Mobile Food Vendor license from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department available for inspection.
6. No dumping of any kind is allowed in storm drains. Haul it in, haul it out.
7. The vendor provides a trash can.
8. Operations do not occur between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

A designated Food Truck Only parking area is located at 1620 45th Street East, in front of Dillanos Coffee Roasters. This area is reserved for food trucks daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. See Sumner Municipal Code 10.36 for additional information.

We ask mobile food vendors to be considerate and avoid parking near unsafe conditions for traffic or customers.

Without permission from the affected property owner, mobile food vendors must remain at least 100 feet from brick-and-mortar restaurants and food truck pods. A link to the applicable code will be added when it becomes available through eCode360.

Parking on Private Property

Mobile food vendors operating on private property must have the property owner’s permission. Vendors must also acknowledge and submit the applicable year’s Food Truck Program Guidelines and all required documentation.

Special Events  

Mobile food vendors add vibrancy, and food variety and options to city events. Mobile food vendors serving at a Special Event (street fairs, concerts, etc.) are required to meet the above requirements for parking on streets and have proper liability insurance Food vendors need to obtain all necessary licenses and permits through the Pierce County Health Dept. A minimum of $1 million per occurrence with a $2 million aggregate for general liability insurance from all food vendors with the organization named as an additional insured will be required. In addition, any food or beverage vendors also need to have both on going and completed operations coverage to protect against food borne illnesses.
