The Sumner Police Department is inviting community members to review and provide feedback on proposed policies and procedures related to the Keep Washington Working Act.

The Keep Washington Working Act establishes requirements for how Washington law enforcement agencies interact with federal immigration authorities. As part of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and compliance with state law, the Sumner Police Department has developed updated policies and procedures that are now available for public review.

Community input is an important part of this process. We encourage residents, business owners, and other interested community members to review the proposed policies and share their comments or questions.

View the proposed policies and procedures: https://connects.sumnerwa.gov/public-safety-transparency

Comments may be submitted by email to: Chief Andy McCurdy @ andym@sumnerwa.gov

Public feedback will be accepted through August 12, 2026. After the comment period closes, all feedback will be reviewed before the policies are finalized and implemented.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this process and help us continue serving the Sumner community with professionalism, transparency, and accountability

We had a wonderful National Night Out yesterday!

Yesterday, our officers, Chief, Deputy Chief, Lieutenant, and Mayor along with members from the Department of Corrections Puyallup Probation Office and East Pierce Fire & Rescue visited three National Night Out gatherings throughout our community: Kincaid Court Senior Housing, Seasons at Sumner Valley, and a neighborhood gathering hosted by a former reserve deputy from the Sheriff’s department.

Members of the Department of Corrections Puyallup Probation Office and East Pierce Fire & Rescue also joined the gathering

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared conversations, and helped make the evening so memorable. A special thank-you to all the organizers and hosts!

National Night Out is a great reminder that strong relationships help create a safer, more connected community. We appreciate everyone who participated!
