Last night, we were honored to celebrate Chief Brad Moericke at a wonderful and well-attended retirement open house surrounded by former chiefs, current and former department employees, neighboring agency chiefs and administrators, family, friends, and community members. One of the evening’s most meaningful moments was listening to Brad’s final radio sign out of service which was a fitting tribute to his incredible career dedicated to public safety and service to our community.

After 25 years of service to the City of Sumner, the Sumner Police Department and our community, Chief Moericke is officially retired!

Chief Moericke’s leadership, commitment, and care for both our residents and our department have made a lasting impact that will certainly be felt for years to come. Throughout his career, Brad has led with integrity, professionalism, and a heart of service, always putting the well being of others above self.

Please join us in thanking Chief Moericke for his many years of service and wishing him all the best in this next chapter. Your leadership and dedication will truly be missed.

Congratulations on your retirement, Chief Moericke and thank you for everything you’ve done for Sumner!

When visiting downtown Sumner, please remember to follow posted parking signs and back in where back-in angle parking is required.

Backing into designated spaces helps improve visibility, traffic flow and safety for drivers, pedestrians and other visitors. Pulling in forward can create a hazard when leaving the space and may result in a parking citation.

Thank you for helping keep Sumner safe and welcoming for everyone.

Safety first! We recently participated in a grant funded traffic safety/seatbelt emphasis in Sumner, with support from Tacoma PD. Over the 4-hour emphasis, we made a total of 37 traffic stops and issued 51 citations. Wearing a seatbelt is one of the easiest things we can do to drastically reduce likelihood of injury or death from a collision. Remember to buckle up!
