Today, we want to recognize all of the dedicated men and women who answer the call, day or night, to protect and serve!

At SPD, we know that keeping our community safe is a team effort. We are incredibly grateful for our partners at East Pierce Fire & Rescue, South Sound 911, and our neighboring law enforcement agencies who work alongside us every day.

From the dispatchers who answer the first call for help, to the firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and law enforcement officers who respond, each plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe.

To our fellow first responders, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and willingness to show up for others when it matters the most. We are proud to serve alongside you!

🚧 Heads up, Sumner drivers! Expect delays near the SR 410/SR 162 interchange Wednesday, October 28.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., WSDOT will close the right lane of westbound SR 410 approaching SR 162 for drainage work, guardrail repairs and brush clearing.

🚗 Delays could reach 20 minutes on westbound SR 410 and SR 162 approaching the interchange.
↗️ The ramp from SR 162 to westbound SR 410 will remain open.

Allow extra travel time, consider traveling outside work hours and slow down near crews.

Halloween is almost here, and we’re hoping the scariest thing you come across is someone handing out raisins instead of candy!
Before you head out for a night of trick-or-treating, here are a few safety reminders:

Be Seen: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and carry a flashlight to help drivers spot you.

Stay Together: Younger trick-or-treaters should always have a responsible adult along for the adventure.

Look Both Ways: Cross at intersections and crosswalks, and never assume a driver sees you.

Check Your Treats: Parents, take a quick look through the candy haul before the sugar rush begins (and make sure you take a piece or two for tax)

Drive Extra Carefully: Slow down, stay alert, and watch for excited trick-or-treaters who might make unexpected moves.

Keep Costumes Safe: Make sure masks don’t block vision and costumes aren’t long enough to cause trips or falls.

We recently received a heartfelt letter from a family in our community recognizing Officer Leighton for his compassion, patience, follow-through and support during a missing-person search and a family crisis, as well as his responsiveness to other neighborhood concerns. This is the type of amazing work that our officers do every day, often without recognition and never for personal attention, but we feel that it is worth celebrating and sharing with all of you.
