Chief Moericke has been a steady leader, a trusted public servant, and a strong advocate for the safety and well-being of everyone he served. His impact on our department and community will be felt for years to come, and we are incredibly grateful for his commitment and leadership.
Please join us in celebrating his career and wishing him the very best in this next chapter!
Sumner City Hall – Council Chambers
Wednesday, May 27th, 2026
4 PM – 6 PM
We invite community members, colleagues, and friends to stop by, share memories, and thank Chief Moericke for his service at his retirement open house.
We hope to see you there!
Andy McCurdy has been promoted to Chief, Loren Houselog to Deputy Chief, Justin Gregson to Lieutenant, and Geoff Boone to Sergeant. Each of these individuals has demonstrated exceptional dedication to leadership, a strong commitment to serving our community, and the depth of experience that has prepared them for these important roles.
This is a historic moment for SPD, as we have never had this many promotions at one time. It reflects not only the growth of our department, but also the strength and professionalism of our team.
We also want to share that Chief Brad Moericke will be retiring at the end of May after his many years of service and leadership. We will be announcing details soon for an open house to celebrate his retirement and recognize his contributions to the department and community.
Please join us in congratulating all of our newly promoted leaders!
We have had a ton of unclaimed stray dogs come in over the past week, so we really appreciate your help to get the word out and hopefully get this pup reunified with their owner(s)!
