Headed to the Championship Parade tomorrow? The train is a great way to go, but please know that parking by Sumner’s Sounder Station is extremely limited already on a weekday.

Here are tips to avoid a parking penalty during your celebration:
1. If you live close by, walk to the station. The weather forecast looks great!
2. Ask a friend to drop you off at the station. There’s a drop-off pullout right on Traffic Avenue.
3. Park at the Bonney Lake Park & Ride and ride the connecting 596 shuttle.

This week, our School Resource Officer, Brandon Anderson, spoke with Sumner Rotary about his work with our schools. Drawing from his own challenging childhood, Brandon is passionate about mentoring students—especially those who are struggling. He focuses on building relationships while also promoting accountability, sitting down with students to understand their needs and guide them toward integrity and better choices. Brandon also spoke to Rotary about the PAL program here at SPD and how effective the program has been with engaging the youth of Sumner, especially through the Boxing and Badges program. Thank you Officer Anderson for all of the effort you put into the youth of our community! .

In January, one of our officers responded to a vehicle fire that had fully engulfed the car. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but sadly, nothing could be recovered. The owner shared that they had been living out of their vehicle for two years, and everything they owned—food, water, blankets, and important documents—were lost. With no family or friends nearby, they were understandably distraught. Our officer used their Blue Bridge funds to secure a nearby hotel for the night. The individual was deeply grateful for the compassion they were shown.

Moments like this are made possible through our Blue Bridge Fund, which allows our officers to provide small acts of kindness during times of crisis. If you’d like to help us continue supporting people in need, please consider donating to Sumner PD’s Blue Bridge Fund here: https://bluebridgealliance.org/sumnerwapd/

We know many of you will be heading out to watch the Seahawks take home a win this Sunday. Before kickoff, make sure you have a winning game plan off the field too — designate a sober driver and plan a safe ride home.
