Do you know what my name Suki means?!?! It means “like” and “love” — I would like to meet you, and I would love to join your family!

My previous owners brought me to the shelter when they were no longer able to take care of a dog. I’m super happy, healthy, and friendly, and my buddies at the shelter have told me that I have been spayed and had all my shots. So I’m ready to get adopted today!

I am 3 years old, and as you can see by my photos, I have a smile that you are guaranteed to love! My vet thought I was a Shiba Inu mix since I’m medium-sized, but my doggie DNA test said that I am a perfect mix of shepherd (German and Australian!), retriever, and chow. Besides being super cute and happy, I am very playful and described as a “social butterfly” by the shelter staff who take care of me.

If you would like to meet Suki, we would love to have you reach out to the Metro Animal Services Shelter at pets@sumnerwa.gov. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, and are located near the South Hill Mall in Puyallup.

As we gear up for fireworks, BBQs, and summer fun, don’t forget about our furry friends! The 4th of July can be a stressful (and even dangerous) time for pets. Here are some quick tips to keep them safe and happy:

-Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can frighten pets. Create a quiet, comfortable space inside where they can feel secure.
-ID Tags & Microchips: Make sure your pet’s ID tag is up to date in case they get scared and run off.
-Skip the Fireworks: Leave pets at home when heading to displays—it’s safer and less stressful for them.
-Secure Exits: Loud noises can cause pets to bolt. Double-check that doors, windows, and gates are secure.
-Use Background Noise: Play soft music or turn on the TV to help drown out fireworks booms.

Let’s make sure the holiday is fun for everyone, including our four-legged family members! Stay safe and have a happy 4th!

Our hearts are heavy following the tragic events that unfolded yesterday involving our fire service brothers and sisters in Idaho from the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire & Rescue.

The Sumner Police Department extends our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.

Please keep the families of all involved in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
