Hey Sumner, are you ready to be on TV? FOX 13 is coming down to film Good Day Live from Sumner’s Heritage Park on Friday, August 28. They’re calling this series Zip Trips because they’re featuring cities, like Sumner, that are easy day-trips from Seattle. Not that we’re competitive or anything, but we’ve watched some of the other cities’ features, and we want to make sure Sumner really shines the brightest. FOX 13 is bringing a food truck with them; the Sumner High School Marching Band will fill Cherry Avenue, next to the park; we’re getting the Kenworth parked next to the park; we’ll have corn hole out on the grass for playing. The filming begins at 10 am and lasts for an hour. You have the very important task of simply showing up and having fun. When they do the live shots from the park, we want it to be full and energetic. This kind of coverage is so important for our independent businesses here in Sumner. I do my best to eat and shop locally, but they need more than just you and me for customers. This is the kind of coverage and exposure money can’t buy, and they’ll continue to show these features of Sumner throughout the year.
There is just a little bit of a homework assignment with this. FOX 13 conducts a drive as part of this feature. With our segment at the end of summer, our drive is for school supplies that will go to the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. We asked the District what they needed, and they shared their list. It includes pens, pencils, college-ruled binder paper, and red, black and blue pens. Use the link below for more details. It kind of warms my heart that some of these things have not changed since my kids were in school. The surprising items they could also use are shoes of any size (kids to adults) and laundry detergent to keep back-to-school clothes clean.
