Through the summer, Sumner took the steps to form a Transportation Benefit District (TBD) and fund it with a 0.1% sales tax that will go into effect in 2026. Already used by most neighboring cities in Pierce and King Counties, this District is a way to fund street maintenance and preservation. It is much cheaper and easier to maintain our streets rather than let them decline so far that we have to rebuild them completely.
