Our online utility bill pay system is currently down. The software vendor is looking into the issue. In the meantime, we will not proceed with shut-offs as scheduled for 2/28/23 and will update the timeline when the system returns. You can still pay by credit card, check or cash at City Hall.

On September 15, 2024, at 6:34 pm, officers from the Sumner Police Department responded to a person in crisis on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks over Hwy 410. Multiple agencies responded to provide assistance, including Washington State Patrol, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, and a civilian crisis responder. At 8:34 pm, after multiple strategies including negotiations and less than lethal tactics, the incident resulted in the use of lethal force by members of the Sumner, Puyallup and Bonney Lake departments. No officers were injured.

Following State law, the Pierce County Force Investigation Team (PCFIT) will be taking over this investigation. A public information officer from PCFIT has not yet been assigned to this incident. During the investigation, Traffic Ave will be closed between Thompson Street and Main Street.
