Evacuations

Homes in Rainier Manor are now at a Level 3 evacuation, which means we recommend you go now. We have some leaks in the levee at Rainier Manor. We’re getting crews down there to add more sandbags, but the river is expected to come up higher before cresting at 4 pm. If you are Rainier Manor, we recommend you leave now as a precaution.

Evacuated residents can go to the Gordon Family YMCA as a day shelter to get dry and comfortable. You don’t have to be a member; you just have to show your ID. Map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ciz5iEkzfLtu6ibD7

Sandbags

Sandbags are available at our current Public Works Operations Facility, if you’d like to come pick some up. Come to 4711 142nd Ave, map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nmULUKjyCjYkHjP87

Thank you to the LDS Church, Sumner-Bonney Lake School District and Pierce County for helping to bring or bag sand for our community.

Status at this time:

  • SR 410 is back open in Sumner.
  • The Stewart Road Bridge is closed until further notice (see map below).
  • Houston Road is closed at Valley Avenue/Cannery Way due to water over the roadway.
  • We know there’s water on Alder Avenue near Maybell/Adele and are working to see if we can help with that.
  • We ran the street sweeper through as much of the city as possible to clear storm drains of debris. If you see a clogged drain, please help by removing the debris to reduce localized flooding.
  • The full length of the Sumner Link Trail is closed.
  • State Street is closed where it crosses under SR 410.
  • We are assessing/assisting with patching and reinforcing the Hesco sandbags along the White River. Thank you to Bonney Lake and Pierce County for helping us fill and set sandbags.
  • The flood wall is up that protects our regional treatment facility.

White River Impacts

This morning, the Army Corps told us that they will release more water later today, after the Puyallup River starts receding, after approximately 4 pm. They’re hoping to keep flows out of the dam below 10,000 cfs, which is similar to the flows on the White River yesterday. We expect to see some impacts similar to yesterday but hope no worse. This is what we know now and hope to have more information around 4 pm this afternoon. Keep in mind it’s an ever-changing situation. If you are in areas highlighted in the map below, be sure to sign up for PC Alerts (see link below) so that you receive any notifications if we have to change quickly.

Puyallup River Impacts

The Puyallup River is expected to crest at 4 pm today at levels close to yesterday. Homes in Rainier Manor are now at a Level 2 evacuation, which means to Be Set to go at a moment’s notice. We have some leaks in the levee at Rainier Manor. We’re getting crews down there to add more sandbags, but the river is expected to come up higher before cresting at 4 pm. If you are Rainier Manor, place your bags in your vehicle and be ready to leave with little further notice if necessary.

Homes adjacent to the Puyallup River in Riverwalk Condos and The Retreat Apartments remain at Level 1 evacuation to be prepared, which means pack any medications and essential needs, just in case. We will continue to monitor impacts and update as needed. If you haven’t signed up already to receive a PC Alert, please sign up now. (See link below.)

Emergency Alerts

We will continue to update this website as needed. If we need to send any notices of evacuations or impacts, we are using the Pierce County Alert system. To sign up your business or residence, go to PC Alert. It helps to sign up your full address. If you sign up just with your zip code, you’ll get all alerts for 98390 and not know if flooding is impacting your specific area or not.
