With the national Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits expected to expire on Nov. 1 due to the federal shutdown, we’re sharing resources for food and ways to help those in need.
Access Food
Some food banks require membership or pre-registration to use their services. Here are three local food banks in the Sumner area:
- Sumner Community Food Bank: Registration is required to access appointments for food pickup. To register, visit the food bank in person 10-11:30 am Monday-Saturday at 15625 Main St in Sumner.
- Emmanuel Food Pantry: There is no membership or registration required. Hours are Tuesdays 10 am-12 pm, Wednesdays 3-5 pm and Fridays 10 am- 12 pm. The food pantry is located on the north side of St. Andrew Church at 1401 Valley Ave in Sumner.
- Sumner-Bonney Lake Family Resource Center: Food, diapers and connection to other resources are available through the family center. Hours vary, so please call for an appointment at (253) 891-6153. The center is located on the campus of Sumner Middle School at 1508 Willow St, Portable 705 in Sumner.
