Good morning Sumner. Here is today's flood update:

We continue to assist our neighboring City of Pacific as we can. Thank you to our Stewart Road Bridge contractor, Ceccanti, who built a channel yesterday through our construction site to help the flooded river water in Pacific rejoin the river as quickly as possible and drain from flooded roads.

We had the Army Corps of Engineers and a Hesco company official walk not only our new wall but also the Hescos put in place in Sumner a few years ago to check how they’re doing and holding up. So far, so good, but we’ll continue to monitor and assess.
Like everyone, we saw a few power outages and trees down throughout the city last night, but thankfully, nothing major. While snow in the mountains and decreasing rain amounts are all good news, we know that Mud Mountain Dam has stored a lot of water and will need to keep releasing higher than normal flows for a quite a while, even after the weather itself calms down.

To our knowledge, no one in the City of Sumner was displaced by flooding; however, we know that neighbors near the city continue to experience impacts. Below is a partial list of resources for displaced or those who want to volunteer with groups:

Severe flooding has canceled 430+ blood donations, leaving local hospitals especially O-negative blood at emergency low levels.

If you can safely reach a Bloodworks Northwest donor center or drive, please consider donating before year’s end. All blood types are needed.

📲 Book same-day appointments at bloodworksnw.org or via the Bloodworks App (Text BWAPP to 999-777).

Thank you for helping care for our community. ❤️
